The Ministry of Local Government, plans to procure brand new vehicles for all Local Council Five (LCV) chairpersons across the country.
This was revealed on Monday, 22nd September, 2025 by Joseph Majanga Olo, Assistant Commissioner at the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, during a budget consultation meeting for the 2026/27 FY at Elgon hotel located at Industrial city division in Mbale city while speaking to district leaders from Eastern region.
He says the Ministry of Finance has allocated Shs35.2 billion to procure these vehicles in August this year.
Majanga says the vehicles will enable LCVs to effectively monitor government projects and programs in their districts.
However, he says those vehicles will be district-owned, ensuring that they remain with the district even when the chairperson leaves office.
Juma Emong Showan, the Bukedea district speaker, welcomed the initiative, noting that it will greatly enhance the ability of LCVs to oversee government programs across the district.
He stressed that transportation challenges have previously hindered their efforts, and the new vehicles will help address this issue.
This initiative is expected to improve governance and oversight at the district level, ensuring that government programs are implemented effectively and efficiently.
