NRM National Chairman and presidential flag bearer, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has advised disgruntled party members who plan to contest as independents to reconsider their decision.

He encouraged them to instead seek redress through the party’s internal appeal structures, warning that the 18.5 million NRM voters are unlikely to support independents.

Museveni made the remarks while addressing his maiden rally shortly after being nominated by the Electoral Commission as the NRM presidential flag bearer for the 2026 elections on Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025.

NRM National Vice Chairperson, Alhaji Moses Kigongo, officially handed over the party flag to General Museveni, endorsing him to lead the party’s bid for another term in office.

Kigongo rallied Ugandans to support Museveni, describing him as the best choice to ensure Uganda’s continuity. He also urged NRM supporters to reject independent candidates who emerged after losing in the party primaries.
