SOROTI CITY
Pastors and church leaders in the Eastern District of Soroti have been cautioned to refrain from engaging in extra-marital affairs.
This important message was shared during a training session for pastors and church leaders, organized by Preachers Mission Africa (PMA) in collaboration with Global Pastor Training (GPT) at the Uganda Assemblies of God (UAG) Tubur in Soroti District.
The three-day Tier 2 training, which commenced on Wednesday and will be concluding on Friday, September 26th, 2025, drew over 100 pastors and church leaders from various denominations across Soroti City, Soroti District and even parts of Amuria District.
Pastor Pius Kachumba, the regional teacher of GPT for Kenya and East Africa, emphasized that some pastors and church leaders have strayed from their commitments at home and are engaging in extra-marital relationships while still claiming to serve God.
He pointed out that many issues we face globally stem from family dynamics since pastors and church leaders are often unaware of the biblical teachings regarding family.
Kachumba articulated that many of these challenges arise because individuals do not fully understand the purpose or intention of the Creator in establishing the family unit.
He believes that when men of God grasp the original purpose of family, we can nurture vibrant, energetic, and healthy households.
The aim of the training is to empower pastors to truly recognize their identities and the divine calling they have received.
“We aspire to assist pastors in understanding that while they are human, reliance on God allows them to set a positive example in their own families, within the church, and in their communities,” he stated.
The trainer emphasized the importance for clergy to embrace their role as family men, highlighting that God values them and their families and therefore encourages them to be exemplary husbands and fathers.
Additionally, he noted that pastors must lead their congregations effectively and invest in developing other church members, especially men, as there is a concerning trend of men being absent from their families or not fully realizing their roles as leaders within those units.
He shared that when husbands learn to worship God within their families, those families will unite and collectively participate in worship services.
Stephen Amechu, the coordinator of PMA, announced that this was the second training event for pastors and their wives, as well as church leaders and their wives, following the first session (Tier 1) held in April 2024. He expressed gratitude to GPT for their financial support of the training.
“We at PMA want to thank GPT for their continued financial support, and we also invite others to join in helping us equip the saints. Our goal is to reach every unreached area in Africa with the Gospel,” Amechu stated.
Simon Ebeku, chairperson of the Tubur United Pastors Association, emphasized the importance of a leader within the family remaining peaceful and non-quarrelsome, especially in difficult situations, to set a positive example.
Peter Iyolit, leader of Community Church-Tubur, reflected on the role of a pastor and their family, noting that they should serve as exemplars for their congregation. He learnt that a pastor should lead worship at home to foster the church’s growth.
Nathan Oula, a pastor with the Sheema Evangelistic Assembly of Tubur, shared his thoughts on the impact of Tier 1 and Tier 2 training sessions, which he believes have empowered leaders to strengthen their families and guide their children effectively.
“We previously thought that being saved was enough, but these teachings have opened our eyes to knowing God fully, managing our homes well, and developing our communities. The church is made up of people, and it is those people who will advance God’s work. We are grateful that the lessons we’ve received will leave a lasting impact on our lives,” said Oula.
Catherine Aguti, pastor’s wife at Mission Mode Bible Church, mentioned her learning on how to manage her family in Christ Jesus, embracing Christian values while engaging with neighbors who may not share those values. She also highlighted the necessity of love within marriage.
