As Uganda joined the rest of the world to celebrate the World Heart Day 2025, the Director General Health Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Charles Olaro revealed that approximately 80% of Ugandans live with High blood pressure but unfortunately rarely go for health checkups.

Dr. Olaro revealed this on October 7, 2025, during celebrations of World Heart Day which was held at Entebbe Mayor’s Gardens in Entebbe Municipality under the theme: “DON’T MISS A BEAT”.

The celebrations kick started with a warm-up for the Heart Awareness Walk, uniting the community to promote heart health and well-being.

The World Heart Day came timely as Entebbe Municipality celebrated healthy hearts, wellness, and community. During celebrations, there were free screenings to fitness sessions and inspiring talks with emphasis on keeping every heartbeat strong.

Dr. Olaro who represented the minister for Health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, noted that most Ugandans don’t know about their blood pressure hence leading to a lot of sudden deaths. He, however challenged people to always check their blood pressure.

Meanwhile, the world Heart Day celebrations was attended by several leaders led by Entebbe Municipality Mayor, Fabrice Brad Rulinda among others.
