Uganda is set to host a Midterm review meeting at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) from 13 – 16 October 2025 at the Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence”.
According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa on Wednesday, 8th October, 2025, this follows the successful Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Heads of State and Government that Uganda hosted on the 19th, January 2024.
He says Government, through its various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, is in advanced stages of preparation to ensure a successful conference.
“We shall host Delegations from the Member States, Observer Countries, and Observer Organizations of the NAM,” he says.
The P/S says the meeting aims to deliberate on 12 pertinent issues affecting the members of the NAM, which include: NAM’s relevance amid rising geopolitical tensions; address threats to development, peace, security, human rights, rule of law.
Centrality of the Palestine issue; defend longstanding NAM positions; uphold international humanitarian law and UN resolutions.
Concern over Gaza humanitarian crisis: casualties, displacement, destruction, siege; call for immediate relief and UNRWA support
Call for full implementation of UN General Assembly ES-10/27 (12 Jun 2025): end blockade of Gaza, open borders, facilitate humanitarian aid; support Egypt and Qatar in ceasefire efforts.
Poverty eradication as a core UN 2030 Agenda objective; need a revitalized global partnership; implement the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Sevilla Commitment, and SDG 17.
Strengthening multilateralism and reform of global governance (UN, financial architecture, MDBs) to reflect current realities and Global South needs.
Acknowledging Africa’s historical injustice, call for greater Africa representation in a reformed UN Security Council (Ezulwini Consensus, Sirte Declaration).
Importance of regional/sub-regional cooperation: industrial development, trade, investment, technology transfer, job creation.
Anticipate XX Summit in Uzbekistan; address regional security, social and economic development with coordinated NAM response.
Appreciation for the leadership of H.E. Yoweri Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, of the movement.
Reaffirm support for UN-centered multilateralism and strengthening the UN’s capacity and democratic, inter-governmental character.
Reaffirm the right to self-determination for peoples under foreign occupation or colonial domination.
“Final consultations among member states are currently ongoing on the Outcome Documents to be adopted by Ministers of Foreign Affairs during the meeting,” he adds.
Bagiire reveals further that given the nature of the meeting, there will be controlled access in and around Munyonyo, and the Public is requested to support the Government in ensuring the success of the conference through complying with any traffic control measures that will be put in place.
