Prominent Ugandan activist, David Musiri, a longtime member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has defected to the Democratic Front (DF) to contest the Makindye West parliamentary seat after NUP denied him endorsement in favor of Zahra Luyirika.

Musiri accused NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya of internal sabotage, prompting his swift alignment with DF, led by former NUP leader Mathias Mpuuga.

Musiri is set to be nominated today, 23rd October, 2025.

The move, announced via social media on October 22, 2025, underscores deepening divisions within Uganda’s opposition as DF attracts other defectors ahead of the 2026 elections.
