A 24-year-old man accused of forging the First Lady Janet Museveni’s signature has been sentenced to 15 months in jail under a plea bargain agreement with the State.

Kenneth Niwamanya appeared before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Ronald Kayizzi, on Tuesday, 28th October, 2025, who handed him the sentence.

However, the magistrate deducted the 13 months and 24 days Niwamanya had already spent on remand at Luzira Prison, leaving him to serve only one month and seven days.

Under a plea bargain, an accused person pleads guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Niwamanya, a resident of Bulenga in Wakiso District, allegedly forged the First Lady’s signature to solicit funds for his organization, Umoja Youth Initiative Development Uganda, claiming to organize an event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

He was arrested on August 22nd, 2023, at the Ministry of Education offices in Kampala with the forged documents.
