The government has ordered the immediate relocation of families displaced by recent landslides in the Sebei subregion, as efforts intensify to ensure their safety and restore normalcy

The directive was issued by the Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Lillian Aber on Monday, 3rd November, 2025 who said the government, through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), is working closely with the Uganda Red Cross Society to provide emergency relief, food supplies, and temporary shelter for the affected families

According to the minister, arrangements are underway to set up tents in Kabelyo Parish, Moyok Sub-county in Kween District, an area identified by local leaders as safe and suitable for temporary resettlement. The location was chosen due to its flat terrain, reducing the risk of further landslide occurrences.

Preliminary reports indicate that heavy rains triggered the landslides that destroyed homes, crops, and roads in parts of Kween, Kapchorwa, and Bukwo districts. Dozens of families have been rendered homeless, and emergency teams are continuing to assess the full scale of the damage.

The Uganda Red Cross Society has already deployed volunteers on the ground to support search and rescue operations, distribute relief items, and conduct health and sanitation awareness among the displaced communities

Local leaders have welcomed the government’s swift response, saying that timely relocation and humanitarian aid will prevent further loss of life and suffering.

Authorities have also urged residents living in high-risk areas to move to safer zones as heavy rains continue across the region, warning that more landslides could occur if the weather persists.

In the early hours of November 1st, 2025 at around 4:00am, a devastating mudslide struck a family home in Kspsomo, Tegeres, carrying with it a massive boulder that crushed everything in its path.

Four precious lives were lost; a bright young graduate full of promise, two beloved grandchildren and their step-mother. The parents of the home are currently battling for their lives in critical condition.
