The office of the President under State House Poverty Alleviation Program has delivered a total of 3,360 passion fruit seedlings to Apopong farmers, Apopong parish in Kolir Sub County in Bukedea district.
The delivery was witnessed by William Wilberforce Tukei, the Resident District Commissioner Bukedea on Tuesday, 11th November, 2025. The Passion fruit seedlings are to benefit forty five model farmers.
According to Tukei, the NRM government is trying its best in improving the household incomes of people in the community by engaging in numerous government programs such as PDM, Emyooga and WEP.
“Today we have received the passion fruit seedlings, a kilo of passion is at five thousand, I believe by the time we harvest we shall be having money in our pockets,” said Tukei.
Ms. Hellen Akello Ekumu, the Private Secretary to the President told this publication that the delivered passion fruits will target mostly the youth.
“This project was lobbied by Speaker Anita aimed at helping the people to move out of the poverty line,” said Ms. Akello.
Joseph Odeke together with some of the beneficiaries welcomed the project saying they have been struggling to set up on their own.
“We want to thank this government in particular, the President for giving us this great support, we hope to have money now in our pockets”, said Odeke.
However, the project is carried out as a pilot area before rolling it out to the entire district of Bukedea.
