BUDUDA

Kigai Moses Wamoto, a former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Manafwa, Namisindwa, and Napak, has publicly declared his support for presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi. The surprising endorsement was made during a live program on Elgon FM on Saturday evening.

Kigai, who served as RDC for over 10 years and is currently contesting for the Bukigai County MP seat in Bududa District as an Independent, said Uganda urgently needs “a sober leader with fresh energy” who can unite the country and champion reconciliation.

Earlier on Saturday, Kigai joined Nandala Mafabi on a radio show after the candidate had toured Bududa, where he received an overwhelming welcome. Kigai praised Nandala for conducting peaceful, issue-based campaigns, saying such discipline should be emulated even at local levels. He described Nandala as “a strong pillar in the politics and development of the Bugisu sub-region.”

In response, Nandala welcomed the endorsement, insisting it is time for Eastern Uganda to take its turn at the presidency, noting that the region has long been underserved. He also used the platform to critique the NRM memo presented to President Museveni during his recent visit to Bugisu, accusing NRM chairpersons of “begging for jobs and misusing money instead of prioritizing the region’s needs.”

Nandala dismissed as false the allegations recently repeated by President Museveni that he bought BCU land. He clarified that the land was sold by the former board under Wamulugwa, not by him.

Political analyst, Namabale James Wambede weighed in, saying that leaders seeking elective offices in Bugisu should be clear on their stance regarding Nandala, warning that “those who pretend not to support him may face the wrath of voters.” He added that Nandala remains the region’s strongest bargaining power.
