The National Environment Management Authority, (NEMA) has halted illegal dredger fabrication and sand mining activities in Kawumba A Cell, Buwama Sub-county, Mpigi District.
According to authorities, the operation carried out on Wednesday, 10th December, 2025 led to the arrest of two suspects who were found at the site.
The Spokesperson NEMA, Mr William Lubuulwa noted that the suspects are currently detained at Lubigi Police Station, while the prime suspect remains on the run.
Mr Lubuulwa further revealed that the operation was a response to a complaint filed by the district Chief Administrative Officer about the illegal activities.
“The multi-agency operation comprised of NEMA’s Environment Protection Force, officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment, the Environment Protection Police Unit, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, and the Mpigi District Natural Resources Officer” he said.
