Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo has today, Thursday, December 18, 2025 pledged to direct the Ministry of Works and Transport to tarmac the Nagongera road, a 1.5-kilometer stretch from the Tororo main roundabout to Rubongi Bridge, in a move expected to ease transport and boost business activity in the municipality.

Alupo made the commitment while officiating at the launch of the Sam Owor Skilling Hub in Agururu A1, Western Division of Tororo municipality, where she acknowledged the poor state of the road and promised that additional funds would be allocated to the current contractor to ensure its completion.

“Once tarmacked, this road will greatly impact the lives of people doing business along it and ease transport in the area,” Alupo said, assuring residents that the project will be worked on.

Beyond infrastructure, the Vice President used the ceremony to rally NRM mobilizers in Tororo to intensify grassroots support ahead of the 2026 general elections, urging independent candidates to step down in favor of party flag bearers to secure victory against the opposition.

The launch of the Sam Owor Skilling Hub attracted prominent leaders and dignitaries who underscored its importance in tackling unemployment and preparing Tororo for city status.

His Royal Highness Kwar Adhola, Moses Stephen Owor, emphasized that skilled labour is a cornerstone of Uganda’s development journey, noting that as Tororo grows into a city, skilled workers will be essential to attract and sustain investments.

Apollo Yeri Ofwono, the area Member of Parliament, hailed the hub as a fundamental gain for Tororo, urging government to expand it across the district to benefit more youth.

He said the hub will play a vital role in reducing unemployment by equipping young people with practical skills.

Tororo municipality Mayor, Kenneth Orono Nyapidi, described the initiative as a powerful tool to fight unemployment and spur development.

James Sevobo, representing the Rotary Club of Kampala, thanked the family of the late Sam Owori for donating land for the project.

He noted that the hub will not only provide skills but also expand affordable housing technologies across the country, giving youth opportunities to earn sustainable livelihoods.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi.
