Court in Kajjansi presided over by Her worship Doreen Karumgu, on Tuesday January 27, 2026, trashed a petition filed by incumbent Busiro South Legislator Charles Matovu in which he requested to order for vote recount of 2026 parliamentary election results.
On January 16, 2026, Wakiso district returning officer Tolbert Musinguzi, declared Kenan Opio as the winner of the 2026 election for Busiro South MP race prompting protests and anguish amongst other candidates including Charles Matovu.
Matovu disputed the outcome of the polls citing irregularities including interference by security agencies as some opposition agents were ejected from polling stations, and missing Declaration forms.
Matovu lodged a formal complaint at the Chief Magisterial Court seeking a recount of the election ballot papers.
However, the Kajjansi Chief Magistrate Doreen Karungi, quashed the petition saying the petitioner lacked evidence to support the petition.
The decision of the court left Matovu dissatisfied with no option of seeking legal redress.
