ALERT!! Prime Minister’s Office Warns of Dire Consequences Due to Expected Heavy Rains

The Office of the Prime Minister has issued a weather advisory warning of dire consequences due to expected heavy rains.

 

The Advisory that has a validity period of between 19th February to 28th February, 2026 warns of flash floods, Urban flooding, mudslides and Rock Falls and strong winds and hailstorms.

 

Signed by Davis Mwenyi for the Permanent Secretary, the Advisory identifies areas most likely to be affected as; Western, Lake Victoria Basin, Elgon and Bukedi in Eastern Uganda.

 

Flash floods are expected in low-lying and flood prone areas, whereas urban flooding is expected in Kampala City and surrounding Metropolitan areas.

 

Meanwhile, mudslide and rock falls are expected in Elgon region where residents are advised to watch out for cracks in the soil and leaning trees; which are all early signs of a mudslide.

 

On the overall, farmers are encouraged to use the early rains to plant food crops and fruit trees to restore degraded areas and improve on nutrition.

 

People should also secure loose roofings and avoid sheltering under isolated trees during thunderstorms.
