A resident of Lia Cell in Arua City, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for tying his daughter to a tree with a rope and burning her back, chest, and thighs with a molten jerrican, as a punishment for returning less change after purchasing groceries.
This incident happened on 19th of February 2026 drawing widespread criticism from members of the public who prayed for justice to be delivered. Her loud cries attracted neighbors, who came to rescue her.
The matter was reported to the police, who charged Mr. Adriko Caesar with Aggravated Torture under the Prevention and Prohibition of Torture Act.
Adriko was consequently prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for torturing his 11-year-old daughter.
“The Chief Magistrate’s Court at Arua today, 26th February 2026, sentenced Mr. Adriko Caesar to 15 years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty yesterday to Aggravated Torture,” reads a statement from ODPP.
As Senior State Prosecutor Genere Thomas was prosecuting Mr. Adriko before Chief Magistrate Obol Oroya Conrad, he pleaded guilty.
The prosecution prayed for a harsh and deterrent sentence, given the manner of cruelty visited on the child of tender age who sustained physical and emotional harm.
The court found the custodial sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment fit for Mr. Adriko.
This conviction and sentence represent accountability and reinforce a clear message: the criminal justice system will pursue crimes against children with the utmost seriousness.
