KAMPALA
Uganda Railways has resumed the Kampala to Mukono Commuter Services.
In a brief statement shared on X-Platform on Sunday, 8th March, 2026, the Cooperation announced that the services start today, Monday, 9th March, 2026.
“Our Commuter Train Services to Mukono will resume on Monday, 9th March, 2026. The first train will depart Mukono at 6:30AM,” reads the statement.
This marks the third time the Cooperation is suspending and resuming the commuter services along this route.
In April, 2025, Uganda Railways suspended the commuter services citing a track embankment failure at Namanve. Again in December, 2025, the Cooperation suspended the services affecting clients who were gearing to use the services during the festive season.
Announcing the latest resumption, URC says Rail remains a critical component of Government of Uganda’s broader strategy to develop a multi-modal transport system that optimizes how people and goods move across the country.
“Through these services, Railways Uganda is providing a reliable and more affordable travel option, helping commuters reduce transport costs, ease pressure on Kampala–Jinja road traffic and improve daily mobility between Mukono and Kampala,” reads the statement in part.
