Fraudsters masquerading as fundraisers for a non-existent ‘Muhoozi Friendship Foundation’ that purportedly is raising funds for the construction of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Men’s Cancer Hospital of East Africa have allegedly attempted or defrauded a Minister.
This group led by a one Assimwe are parading a Bank Account Number 01070018289954 as a collection account for the donations.
According to Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, also National PLU Vice Chairperson Western, the group managed to convince the Minister of State for Public Service, Hon. Mary Mugasa to donate/pledge Shs2M towards the fake foundation.
Using the Minister’s experience, Balaam took to his X-Account on Thursday, 12th March, 2026 and categorically warned that the CDF, Gen. Kainerugaba Muhoozi is not aware of, nor associated with, the so-called foundation and fundraising drive currently being circulated.
Balaam says he passes the warning in his capacity as the National Vice Chairperson of PLU in charge of the Western Region.
“The individuals behind this activity, reportedly led by one Assimwe, should immediately report themselves to the nearest police station. These actions amount to fraud and must stop at once,” writes Balaam on his X-Account.
He reveals further that his senior colleague, Minister Hon. Mary Mugasa was approached for contributions under this false initiative where she pledged Shs2M.
He says they have established that this group is operating mainly in the Mid-Western, Hoima and Kampala regions.
“For the avoidance of doubt, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba is not fundraising for any foundation or activity whatsoever. Members of the public are therefore strongly advised not to respond to or support these fraudulent requests and to report any such approaches to the authorities immediately,” Balaam warns.
The fraudsters have a beautifully crafted letter headlined, “Commemorating 40 years of Exceptional leadership of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” that is sent to prospective contributors.
According to the fraudsters, the Cancer Hospital is intended to serve the East African states in a significant move that strengthens the East African Community spirit as championed by President Museveni.
When contacted, Daudi Kabanda another senior PLU Member confirmed Balaam’s assertions saying, “This is absolutely not part of the MK Fund and it has never been sanctioned by General @mkainerugaba. If you need any information regarding the MK Fund, please contact The Spokesperson of the Fund Grandpa Andrew Mwenda.”
