BUGIRI: Police Apprehends Own Trigger-Happy Officers after Fatal Shooting

The territorial police in Bugiri on Friday 3rd April arrested ASP Wagaba Innocent OC Buwunga Police Station and No.45470 Cpl Okwalinga Stephen attached to the same station to aid in investigating the fatal shooting of a 33 year old man.

 

According to Busoga East police regional spokesperson, ASP Kasadha Michael,  the deceased was identified as Mugoya Alamanzani, resident of Nambale village, Nambale Parish in Buwunga Sub County, in Bugiri district.

 

The regrettable incident occurred at around 04:40 am in the same area.

 

Prior to the occurrence, the police officers in question were effecting an arrest of one Mugoya Nasiru on charges of Assault.

 

However, upon apprehension the suspect, made an alarm that attracted his neighboring relatives, who allegedly confronted the officers with pangas, sticks and stones in an attempt to rescue him.

 

In response to the threat, the officers allegedly discharged bullets to disperse the mob for their safety. Unfortunately, Mugoya was fatally shot in the scuffle. The body was conveyed to Bugiri hospital mortuary for postmortem with further investigations ongoing to establish more facts.
