Tororo Municipality MP Elect, Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna joins hundreds of NRM Party leaders at Kyankwanzi for a one week retreat at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi District.
Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna who put up a spirited fight to shrug off incumbent, Hon. Apollo Yeri Ofwono in the January, General elections under the PLU umbrella now joins mainstream NRM.
Known for his pragmatic approach to politics, Hon. Shyam also son to former Tororo Municipality MP, Hon. Sanjay Tanna earlier expressed his full support for President Museveni’ Musevenomics that has seen majority of Ugandans come out of poverty.
Speaking to this Publication at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi District today, 8th April, 2026. Hon. Shyam Jay Tanna says he expects to merge his business acumen with the NRM’s Theme of Aligning Party leadership towards protecting the gains and making a bold, qualitative leap towards a higher middle-income status society.
The one week retreat that commenced today 8th April, 2026 is expected to be officially opened by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and also NRM National Party Chairman.
Hon. Shyam Tanna’s invitation to Kyankwanzi consolidates his position in the NRM Party having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ruling Party since he went to Parliament as an Independent.
It also signifies the important role, Hon. Sanjay Tanna played as Coordinator, PLU Eastern Uganda Chapter in turning around fortunes for NRM in the Eastern part of Uganda that saw President Museveni sweep the entire region beating off earlier threats from National Unity Platform.
