A clash between fishermen and a Local Beach Management Unit (BMU) in Pallisa District has left one man dead.

According to Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, a 27-year-old student, Iyogil Michael, reported that a group of fishermen from Olok sub-county went fishing at Kawi Swamp/Lake on April 8, 2026.

He adds that they encountered a Local Beach Management Unit (BMU) led by Okeleta from Apopong sub-county, and a misunderstanding led to a fight. Simon Oonyu, also known as Obiro, was injured, thrown into the water, and died.

Kyempasa says his colleagues reported the incident, and the body was recovered the following day. Police responded, and the body was taken to Pallisa General Hospital for postmortem.

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing according to Police.
