The Ministry of Works and Transport has explained continuous delays in processing duplicate registration plates or transition into digital number plates.
In a statement issued by Sarah Kataike on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, dated 10th April, 2026, the Ministry attributes the delays to incorrect contact details i.e Telephone contact and email addresses.
“As a result, the Ministry is unable to contact or schedule applicants for plate fitment,” reads the statement in part.
The Ministry urges all persons who have applied for duplicate registration plates or transition into digital number plates to verify and update contact details with immediate effect.
To update contact details, applicants should access the Online URA Tax Portal and login their TIN Account numbers to verify or confirm email address and telephone numbers attached to their TINs.
Where changes are required, applicants are required to visit the nearest URA Office with a National ID to update their e-mail and telephone numbers against their TINs.
The Ministry further warns that failure to update contact details will result in continued delays in applications for motor vehicle registration related services.
