The Inspector General of Government (IGG) on Wednesday 15th April 2026 arrested a staff surveyor at the Ministry of Lands zonal office in Jinja over allegations of bribery.
The suspect, identified as Donald Francis Wagoli, was apprehended during a surprise spot check conducted by the IGG and her team at the office.
According to preliminary information, a search of Wagoli’s bag reportedly uncovered cash he could not account for at the time of the operation.
Sources further indicated that part of the money, amounting to Shs300,000, had earlier been provided by an IGG informer as part of an ongoing anti-corruption operation.
Jovan Woniala working in the land’s ministry offices was also arrested after he was found in possession of the bag containing the money.
According to Savio Kakooza from the IGG’s office, the duo denied ownership of the money but they have been arrested for further investigation.
“We paid an impromptu visit to Wagoli’s office and found him in possession of a bag with money and when we asked him the amount, he said it amounted to Shs800,000 but on ascertaining the figure we found out that it was more than one million and with land titles.” Said Kakooza.
Kakooza also said that on checking their phones it was realized that in one week they had transactions worth more than Shs.2 million.
Both suspects were taken into custody and are being held at Jinja Central Police Station as investigations continue.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on alleged corruption within land administration offices.
