A Police canine Unit called Bruno has aided police in Kyegegwa District to arrest a suspected goat thief at Kasambya Village, Kyegegwa Town Council.
According to police, on the night of 15th April 2026, at an unknown time, the suspect, Bakebelamu Teopista, broke into the home of the victim, stole one of his goats, and slaughtered it just about 10 metres from the residence.
Upon receiving the report, Kyegegwa Police responded by deploying a team of investigators and its K9 unit. The team proceeded to the scene of crime, which was found well preserved.
Bruno picked up a human scent and tracked it for approximately one kilometre, leading officers directly to the residence of the suspect, Bakebelamu Teopista, who also operates a butcher stall.
The suspect was subsequently arrested, and the skin of the stolen goat, identified by the complainant, was recovered as evidence.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
