The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has halted illegal car washing in Hoima City’s wetlands.
The operation carried out on Saturday, 18th April, 2026, saw 10 vehicles and 11 motorcycles that were found undergoing illegal washing in protected wetlands in Hoima City impounded.
“All items were handed over to Hoima Central Police Station, while the Environment Protection Police Unit has opened a case file to support prosecution of offenders,” says NEMA.
The over-the-weekend enforcement followed a call by Hoima City Council for urgent intervention against escalating wetland degradation. NEMA reiterates that wetlands are vital for water filtration, flood control, and biodiversity conservation, and calls for stronger collaboration and public compliance to protect these fragile ecosystems.
