KAMPALA
The Woman Legislator for Kalangala District, Hellen Nakimuli succumbed to death in the wee hours of Sunday morning on April 19, 2026, following an alleged unsuccessful surgery for fibroids at Alexandria Medical Centre, a private health center which specializes in women’s healthcare.
Her body was later transferred to Mulago hospital for a postmortem. The news of her death left many NUP supporters in total grief and shock.
The NUP leadership described Nakimuli as a devoted leader who will be remembered by her voters for her courage, humility, and unwavering commitment.
The departed legislator was re-elected in the just concluded 2026 parliamentary elections to represent Kalangala district for her second term.
Parliament releases Burial program
In a statement issued today April 20, 2026, by the Office of the Speaker, Anita Annet Among, parliament expressed “profound sadness” and released a long week program to honor Nakimuli’s life and service.
Based on the released program, funeral rites began today on Monday, April 20, 2026, with the commencement of official ceremonies.
After the release of the post-mortem report, the body is expected to be transported to Kalangala District via Entebbe, with a ferry departure scheduled for 2pm today April 20, 2026.
On April 21, 2026, local government leaders and residents will pay their respects during a special district council session and public viewing in Kalangala. Later in the day, the body will be returned to Kampala for an overnight vigil at the family home in Namungona zone, Lubaga Division.
On Wednesday April 22, 2026, Parliament will hold a formal tribute and vigil during which the late legislator will lie in state at Parliament.
A second tribute is scheduled at the National Unity Platform headquarters, followed by a family vigil at her residence in Namungona.
On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the deceased will be taken for a requiem mass at Namungona Orthodox Church, before her burial in Luwero District.
