The Community Development Officer (CDO) for East Division of Soroti City has been arraigned before court on allegations of extorting money from Parish Developmental Model (PDM) beneficiaries.
Alajo Hellen, who appeared before the Soroti Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, April 23, 2026 was charged with obtaining money by false pretence.
According to the State House Anti-corruption Unit, that carried out the investigations, Alajo in her capacity as a Community Development Officer, allegedly extorted thousands of shillings from over 121 beneficiaries of PDM in Soroti City East Division.
She reportedly claimed that the money was required for group registration, renewal of group certificates, and stationary.
It is further alleged that after the beneficiaries received their Shs1,000,000 under the program, she demanded additional payments ranging between Shs10,000 and Shs50,000 from each individual claiming that these funds were intended to facilitate community-based trainers and to enable beneficiaries to access more funding in the next financial year, claims that investigations found to be false.
Alajo will be cooling off at Soroti Government Prisons until 27th May, 2026 when she will re-appear in court for further mention of her case.
