Burial of a 4-year-old girl who drowned in Jinja’s Kiko stream is on hold due to a paternity dispute between two men claiming to be the father.
According to James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson, the child’s body was retrieved from the stream on April 27, and a post-mortem confirmed drowning. The mother, 24-year-old Gloria Nambuya, reported the incident to police, sparking a search for the child.
He says two men have now come forward claiming paternity, prompting police to recommend a DNA test to resolve the issue.
“Police have advised the alleged fathers to seek legal recognition,” says Mubi.
The police has recommended DNA paternity test adding that both parties should accord the deceased child respect and de-escalate the tensions, confusion and conflicts surrounding the matter.
