IGANGA
In the continued fight against organised criminal gangs linked to counterfeit currency issuance and aggravated robberies in Busoga East, the territorial police in Iganga have conducted an intelligence led operation and arrested 3 suspects.
The suspects have been identified as; Isooba Asuman Alias MAZIMA 19, Isooba Amisi 29, and Guule Syrus 25, all residents of Namungalwe village, Namungalwe Town council in Iganga district.
The suspects were arrested from Kisinze, Kawete and Namungalwe Town council.
According to the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Michael, it is alleged that it is in this area where they base to lure victims into counterfeit dollar exchange business before robbing them of cash in their possession.
On the 8th March 2026 at around 02:00 pm, Akampulira Dismas 26, a businessman and a resident of Kigoowa Zone, Nakawa Division in Kampala, reported a case of Aggravated Robbery of cash amounting to Shs13m by one identified as Michael and others on the 06/03/2026 at around 01:00 from Namungalwe Town council in Iganga district.
The district crime intelligence team was covertly deployed to ascertain and identify the prime suspects.
The team managed to identify Isooba Asuman Alias “MAZIMA”, Isooba Amisi and Nalugoda Mohammad.
On the 8th March 2026 at around 06:30pm, Nalugoda Mohammad was arrested. Upon interrogation, he admitted to have participated in the said criminal activities. He led the team to the three suspects.
On the 2nd May, 2026, at around midday, they were apprehended from Namungalwe village in Namungalwe Town council, as they were planning to execute another criminal mission.
The suspects are currently detained at Iganga CPS on charges of Aggravated Robbery, and further inquiries are ongoing.
Police implored the general public, especially the business community to be extra vigilant to avoid falling victim to conmen dealing in fake US dollars.
