The State Minister for Transport, Fred Byamukama, has suspended the operations of Nile Star Bus Limited for 30 days.
The Minister made the pronouncement today, Wednesday, May 6, 2026 following the fatal road crash in Nwoya District involving a Nile Star Bus on May 4, 2026, which claimed at least seven lives.
Byamukama says the suspension takes effect today at 6pm arguing that the Company has been involved in several fatal accidents over the past year, which have cumulatively resulted in 56 deaths and 91 injuries across 11 crashes.
He particularly castigated the driver, whom he says must have been driving under the influence of alcohol adding that the 64 year old Mandela Kassim should never drive any bus anywhere in Uganda for the remaining 1 year of his active driving life.
