A bus belonging to Gulu Secondary School carrying students to Jinja for a tour has today, Thursday, May 7, 2026 been involved in a road crash at Kigumba at about 5:44AM.
According to the Road Safety and Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, the crash occurred when the bus driver attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a Fuso truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Kananura says the bus conductor died on the spot, while 17 students sustained injuries. “Of these, 2 were critically injured, while 15 sustained minor injuries,” says Kananura.
The injured students are currently admitted Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Kananura has warned motorists against careless overtaking, saying it is becoming a major cause of fatal road accidents.
