SANJAY TANNA: The Unsung Hero That Turned NRM Fortunes in Eastern Uganda
BY OUR POLITICAL DESK
NATIONAL

Hon Sanjay Tanna’s name rings across many homesteads, businesses, political groupings and social circles, not because he is a business mogul, but most importantly because of his energy in mobilizing support for NRM Candidates and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
From Bukedi in the 2021 general elections, Hon. Sanjay Tanna became the standby generator that stepped in to mobilize votes for President Museveni canvassing for votes in the ghettos, garages, Universities and youth groups.
He was in Kapchorwa-Sebei, Bugisu, Bukedi where in many cases, he used his own resources to counter the National Unity Platform (NUP) wave that threatened NRM’s fortunes in the national elections.

In Soroti City East 2022 by-election between FDC’s Moses Attan and NRM’s Edmund Ariko, Hon, Sanjay Tanna was explicitly requested to join the NRM leaders who had camped in the Teso City. He crisscrossed Tertiary Institutions, mobilized the business community, the Central Business District Wannabes. And the results, NRM’s candidate won the tightly fought race.
Fast forward to 2026, under the Non-Partisan Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Sanjay Tanna being the Eastern Region Coordinators injected his own funds into mobilizing for President Museveni- and the results are all their to be seen.
Should Sanjay Tanna Continue Larking in the Shadows?
Cognizant of his business acumen, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources appointed Sanjay Chairman Board of Directors Kilembe Mines.
But is this appointment commensurate with Sanjay Tanna’s wealth of experience, dedication to the NRM Party, financial sacrifice especially in canvassing votes for NRM and President Museveni?
Our Political Desk delves deeper into what could be a fitting Ministerial appointment for this NRM Cadre, Investor, Financier, and Mobilizer.
Firstly, Tanna represents a section of Ugandans of Indian descent who have steered this economy in many aspects of investment and are the leading tax payers. Whereas they have been given business space, Ugandan Indians are not well represented in the political management of this Country.
Tanna’s appointment into a Ministerial position could be a befitting appreciation and recognition of the role the Ugandan Indians have played in turning around our economy, creating jobs for the youths and adding value to our products.
His external exposure is an added advantage, especially for Ministries associated to and working with foreign Investors, Tourism and Manufacturing.
For instance, on 31st January, 2026, Lohana International Business Forum (LIBF), a global association honored Hon. Sanjay Tanna for his consistent efforts towards community upliftment, social harmony, and inclusive development reflecting a lifelong commitment to serving society at large.
The Award given at Jio World Convention Centre, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. This Award is consistent with Sanjay Tanna’s International exposure something that can be well utilized when appointed into a Ministerial position.
