Bududa Hospital is still counting losses after fire gutted the administrative block on Tuesday this week.

The blaze destroyed the hospital administrator’s office, reducing property inside to ash.

While speaking to the media on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the hospital, one staff member, who preferred anonymity, said the fire was likely started by a short circuit in the solar system.

The source said, “On Tuesday, it was a public holiday, Heroes’ Day, so the office was locked. People nearby saw smoke coming out and suspected the building was burning before alerting the community.”

Community members responded by breaking into the office using water and Fire extinguisher to put out the fire before other rooms were affected.

Items destroyed by the fire include documents, the entire solar system, and furniture. Currently, the entire block is without electricity, which has caused difficulties in the hospital’s day-to-day operations.
