THRIVE Uganda has launched 20 community hubs across the country aimed at empowering communities through self-help skills development and community-led transformation.
The initiative was officially launched on Saturday, 13 June, at THRIVE Uganda offices in Mbale District. The project seeks to promote learning beyond classrooms, transform ideas into practical solutions, and empower people to shape their own futures.
Speaking at the launch, Caleb Wakhungu, the Country Director of THRIVE Uganda, said the initiative is designed to support community development by enabling young people to take charge of their own progress.
He noted that many young people are increasingly reclaiming their agency, developing solutions from within their communities, and turning challenges into opportunities. Wakhungu added that the 20 hubs are spread across different parts of Uganda to ensure wider community participation and impact.
“We move forward with hope and conviction, knowing that lasting change must be rooted in communities themselves,” Wakhungu said.
The Chairperson of Namisindwa District Local Government, Emma Bwayo, who attended as the Guest of Honour, welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude that Namisindwa District will benefit from three hubs located in Namabya, Mukoto, and Bubutu.
Bwayo urged residents to fully embrace the hubs and take advantage of the opportunities they offer for skills development, innovation, and economic empowerment.
He also encouraged graduates and beneficiaries of the programme to take advantage of government wealth-creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to improve their livelihoods and achieve sustainable economic growth.
The THRIVE Uganda initiative is being implemented in partnership with MCDI, SINA, and USAFI, with a goal of activating communities, strengthening local enterprises, and promoting community-driven development across the country.
