Namisindwa District leaders have stopped the disbursement of the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds until beneficiaries are trained on enterprise selection.
This was revealed by Elijah Madoi, the Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa, while speaking on Wednesday at Pasa Beach in Manafwa Town Council, Manafwa District, during a meeting between Namisindwa County MP Martine Musufwa and her sub-county coordinators.
According to Madoi, Namisindwa District had issues in the last PDM disbursement, where civil servants and wealthy individuals received the money, leaving out the real target group of beneficiaries.
The RDC said they are sensitizing PDM beneficiaries on the enterprises they will select before giving them money.
Major Stephen Watasa, the Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator for Namisindwa and one of the district PDM stakeholder leaders, said they are currently conducting elections for PDM committee leaders at parish levels. After that, beneficiaries will be selected and sensitized before they receive the money.
Metrine Musufwa, the Namisindwa County legislator, urged residents to take the PDM programme seriously, saying it was initiated by the President to lift people out of poverty.
She said people of Namisindwa are good at agriculture and poultry keeping, and it would be easy for them to use that money to fight poverty.
Recently, Namisindwa Chief Administrative Officer, Joseph Lomongin said all civil servants who received PDM money will be required to refund it.
