JUST IN: NRM’s Nabayiga Sweeps to Victory in Kalangala District Woman MP By-Election

The Electoral Commission has declared NRM’s Nabayiga Idah, the duly elected District Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District.

 

The Returning Officer for Kalangala District, Ronald Agaba, declared the results following the completion of polling, vote counting and tallying in accordance with the electoral laws and procedures.

 

According to the results announced at 1:53AM Thursday Morning, 25th June, 2026, Nabayiga garnered 12642 votes beating off her closest challenger, NUP’s Nampala Irene who managed 7474.

 

Babirye Sharifah, an independent Candidate got 244 while another independent, Nagawa Hellen Scovia only managed 217. Nassuna Agnes who came last received 24 votes.

 

The Kalangala District Woman MP seat became vacant following the death of the former District Woman Legislator, Hellen Nakimuli, who died on April 19, 2026. The deceased was serving as the District Woman MP for the term ending on 12 May 2026 and she had also been re – elected, hence was District Woman MP – Elect for the term of office commencing after 12 May 2026 and running 2026 – 2031.

 

The Electoral Commission congratulates the successful candidate and appreciates the voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, observers, the media and all stakeholders who participated in the electoral process.
