Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd, (UETCL) has arrested four individuals found making bricks along the Karuma–Kawanda 400kV, Kawanda–Kasana–Kapeeka 132kV, and Kawanda–Masaka 220kV transmission line wayleave corridor in Kawanda Village.
The exercise undertaken today, Friday, July 10, 2026 addressed significant encroachment arising from brick-making activities within the wayleave, which posed a risk to the safety and integrity of the high-voltage transmission infrastructure.
“Encroachment on transmission line wayleaves is unlawful and compromises public safety, the integrity of critical electricity infrastructure, and the reliable supply of power. UETCL therefore works closely with relevant authorities to ensure that transmission corridors remain protected in accordance with the applicable laws governing electricity infrastructure and public safety,” reads a UETCL statement on X.
The operation, conducted jointly with the Uganda Police Force, enabled the restoration of the required safety clearances to safeguard the transmission lines and enhance the reliability of electricity supply.
UETCL appeals to residents and the surrounding community to keep the wayleave corridor free from brick-making activities, structures, and any other materials that may compromise the safe operation of the transmission network.
During the operation, four individuals were arrested in connection with the alleged unlawful encroachment. The matter is now being handled by the relevant authorities.
UETCL remains committed to protecting the integrity of the national transmission grid and ensuring a safe, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity supply.
