Over 400 newly created villages in Namisindwa District are going to miss the upcoming LCI elections after not being recognized by the Electoral Commission.
This was revealed on, Tuesday, 14th July, 2026 by Simon Byamukama, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, while addressing hundreds of stakeholders from the Eastern Region at Mbale Resort Hotel during an engagement meeting ahead of the upcoming LCI, LCII, and Women Council elections.
According to Byamukama, Namisindwa has only 1,547 villages recognized by the Electoral Commission, and the newly created ones have not yet been included.
He said residents in those newly created villages will go and conduct elections in their previous “mother” villages.
Byamukama cautioned people against engaging in bribery and election violence on voting day, saying anyone found culpable will be arrested.
Hajjat Sarah Bukirwa, the Electoral Commission Registrar for the Elgon Region, also said that elections in all villages will start at 10:00 AM and will be conducted through the lining-up system.
She said they will use village registers, not the national Electoral Commission register, as some people have been thinking.
Bukirwa added that all village elections will start at the same time to prevent people from neighboring villages from coming to vote in other villages.
