The Electoral Commission has called on security organs to refrain from interfering in the ongoing process of elections of LC one Chairpersons and Women Councils slated for this month.
This was echoed by Commissioner, Stephen Tashobya while addressing stakeholders during a post-election evaluation workshop held in Busoga region, at Civil Service college in Jinja city on Wednesday 15th July, 2026
Tashobya said the Commission is concerned about reports of some security personnel disrupting village-level elections and intimidating voters and candidates.
“Security agencies should be impartial and let Ugandans exercise their democratic rights freely without intimidation.” Emphasized Tashobya.
Commissioner Tashobya also urged local leaders, political parties and voters to uphold peace, tolerance and the rule of law as the LC1 elections continue across the country.
Stakeholders at the workshop included district registrars, political party representatives, civil society and security officials from the Busoga sub-region.
His call comes at a time when the Electoral Commission on Wednesday 15th July 2026 officially commenced nationwide nominations for candidates seeking to contest as LC1 Chairpersons across the country.
The LC1 elections are expected to strengthen grassroots governance and service delivery at village level.
