The Chief of Defence Forces UPDF and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has appointed a new Special Forces Command (SFC), commander.
According to a statement issued by Acting UPDF Spokesperson, Col. Chris Magezi today, Monday, 3rd August, 2026, the new SFC Commander is Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru.
Nyakikuru who Magezi says takes over SFC in acting position has also been granted the acting rank of Major General and both appointments take immediate effect.
Acting Major General Nyakikuru replaces Major General David Mugisha who will be preparing to leave to attend the National Defence College (NDC) course abroad in a couple of months’ time.
“The UPDF thanks Major General David Mugisha for the outstanding tour of duty as commander SFC and wish him good luck in his strategic security studies. We also congratulate Acting Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru on his deserved appointment and promotion. We also wish him good luck in his new duties,” says Magezi.
