Police in Kibuku District are investigating an incident of murder by mob after a 29-year-old man was lynched by residents over suspected theft of goats.
According to ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Region Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred on 6th August 2026 at about 1:00 p.m. in Namale Village, Bukatikoko Ward, Tirinyi Town Council.
He says that earlier in the morning at around 9:00 a.m., one Mwanamugezi Sam, 48, reported a case of theft of four goats at Tirinyi Police Station. He later sought canine services from Kibuku Police Station. The police sniffer dog tracked the suspects to the home of the now deceased, Mboya Tom, 29, a peasant and resident of Namale Cell.
“Upon seeing the large crowd heading to his home, the deceased took off, prompting the crowd to run after him. He was arrested by the mob who descended on him and lynched him,” ASP Kyempasa said.
The DPC Kibuku was immediately notified and dispatched a team of officers from CPS Kibuku to the scene.
He adds that a case of Murder by Mob was registered at Kibuku Police Station vide SD Ref 51/06/08/2026 and KBK CRB 205/2026. Statements recorded from a brother to the deceased and other witnesses.
The body was retrieved and conveyed to Kibuku HC IV for postmortem under PF 48 and PF 48B. ASP Kyempasa condemned mob justice and urged members of the public to always report suspects to police for due process.
