Speeding YY Bus Knocks to Death 14-Year-Old Cyclist in Kibuku District

A 14-year-old boy was killed on the spot while another sustained serious injuries after a speeding YY Company bus knocked their bicycle in Kibuku District on Sunday evening.

 

According to ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the Public Relations Officer for Bukedi North Region, the accident occurred on 9th August 2026 at around 5:00 p.m. at Kiryoro Village along the Pallisa-Tirinyi Road.

 

Kyempasa says the deceased is Koche Marvin, 14, a Mugwere and resident of Kiryoro Village, Rwatama Sub-county while the injured is Kirya Sam, about 12, also from Kiryoro Village. He was a passenger on the bicycle and was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

 

He says the accident involved UAZ 663R, an Isuzu bus, blue in colour, belonging to YY Company. It was being driven by Kaggwa Matovu Joseph, 40, a Muganda and resident of Old Kampala, Kampala District. Driving license No. 13898885 01.

 

Police say the cyclist was coming from a shop at Kiryoro Trading Centre with his friend, trying to cross the road from the right side heading home when the speeding bus, which was coming from Pallisa towards Tirinyi, knocked them.

 

“The cause of the accident is alleged to be over speeding by the bus driver,” ASP Kyempasa said.

 

A case of fatal accident was registered at Kibuku CPS vide TSD 09/09/08/2026 and TAR 35/2026.The body conveyed to Kibuku Health Centre IV pending postmortem.

 

The injured victim was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment as PF 48A and PF 48B forms were filled, meanwhile the driver who reported himself to police is out on police bond. Police have urged motorists to observe speed limits, especially in trading centres and areas with heavy pedestrian and cyclist movements.
