Embattled opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye has lost his only known grandson.
Righteous Ariho Ampa, son to Adam Ampa Besigye, the politician’s eldest son passed away at Mulago National Referral Hospital on Thursday, 24th September, 2026.
The six-year-old grandson and only grandchild of Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, died early on Thursday, 24 September 2026, while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
Ariho’s father, Adam Ampa Besigye, Dr. Besigye’s elder son, announced the death, recalling that Ariho, affectionately called “Rai,” was his firstborn, born in March 2020.
The boy’s passing comes as Dr. Besigye, 70, remains hospitalised at Mulago after collapsing in court in late July during his treason trial, which he denies.
According to Doreen Nyanjura, a close family associate of the Besigye’s Ariho Ampa will be laid to rest this Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Rwakabengo, Rukungiri.
Adam Ampa Besigye is the son of retired Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye and the late Judith Bitwire who hailed from Kasese district passed away in 1998.
