A man who masqueraded as an officer attached to State House Anti-Corruption Unit has been remanded on allegations of extorting money from suspects in Tororo Municipality.
Muzuusa Derrick, a contractor working with LOGISCO Company Ltd, was produced before the Tororo Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence on Friday, 25th September, 2026 and remanded until October 6, 2026.
Prosecution alleges that on September 22, 2026, at Tororo Municipal Council in Tororo District, Muzuusa, together with others still at large, with intent to defraud, obtained money from officials of Tororo Municipal Council and other individuals.
The accused allegedly presented himself as an SH-ACU officer and claimed that he could facilitate the release of individuals implicated in corruption-related allegations arising from the ongoing Expose the Corrupt Campaign, led by Hon. Balaam Barugahara, the Minister of Local Government.
It is further alleged that he demanded Shs10 million from the affected individuals, claiming that the money would be used to secure their release and manage their cases.
The Unit encourages members of the public to report suspected cases of impersonation, extortion or corruption involving individuals who falsely present themselves as SH-ACU officers in exchange for purported assistance in corruption-related matters. Such cases should be reported to the relevant authorities.
