Residents of Bukhaweka Sub-county in Namisindwa District have voluntarily donated five acres of land to facilitate the establishment of a government seed secondary school aimed at improving access to education in the area.
Twelve residents from Bubi Kala Parish in Bukhaweka Sub-county today, Tuesday, October 13, 2026, contributed portions of their land to the district to support the proposed school project.
Waraba Tadeo, the LCIII Chairperson of Bukhaweka Sub-county, said residents have been struggling to educate their children because secondary schools are located far from their communities.
He noted that the nearest government secondary school, Wabwala Secondary School, is approximately 10 kilometres away, making access to education difficult for learners in the area.
Waraba added that the district leadership had already expressed interest in supporting efforts to establish the school.
Bwayo Emma, the Namisindwa District LC V Chairperson, said the donation came at the right time, noting that the Ministry had already written to the district requesting proof of land ownership as part of the process of securing the project.
He thanked the land donors for their contribution and encouraged other residents to support government development projects by providing land, explaining that the government does not purchase land for such projects.
Bwayo said the district would proceed with the necessary submissions in the hope that the government would approve the project and provide the required support.
Meanwhile, Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Wolyama Rogers urged residents to remain calm and support the ongoing processes aimed at securing the school.
He cautioned residents against individuals he described as brokers who might mislead them or interfere with the process. He also assured them that the government was willing to listen to their concerns.
Namisindwa District currently has eight government-aided secondary schools serving its 29 sub-counties, highlighting the need to expand access to secondary education in the district.
