SOROTI CITY
The Uganda Police Force in East Kyoga Region has arrested a 35-year-old man identified as Ochola Jonathan, alias Ekotu Peter, alias Onoria, a resident of Majengo Cell, Oderai Majengo Ward, Soroti City West Division, over allegations of personation, theft and possession of suspected government stores.
The arrest was made by the Flying Squad team on Friday, 16th October, 2026 following a complaint from Katakwi District alleging that the suspect impersonated Col. Ekotu Peter, purportedly attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, and defrauded members of the public.
It is alleged that the suspect obtained Shs1,200,000 from the father of an inmate on remand at Katakwi Prison in connection with a murder case, claiming that he could facilitate his son’s release on bail through Soroti High Court.
Police says a search conducted at the suspect’s residence in Majengo reportedly led to the recovery of two pairs of UPDF uniforms, desert boots, a UPDF bag, a cap, PDM documents bearing details of Abim, names of inmates and other UPDF-related documents.
Preliminary information further indicates that the suspect allegedly impersonated a SHAU officer and contacted other public officials, reportedly using threats and intimidation to solicit money from them. He is also alleged to have worn UPDF uniform on various occasions.
ACP Hajji Ibrahim Saiga, the Regional Police spokesperson East Kyoga confirmed that the suspect is currently detained at Soroti City East Police Division pending further interrogation.
The Uganda Police Force urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of impersonation, fraud and extortion to the nearest police station.
