Police in Entebbe have apprehended11 Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) staff including the Chief Engineer, Herbert Ngobi, plus IT managers and Aviation Security Officers who were on duty during the vandalism of airport equipment worth Shs3.7 billion.

The UCCA officials were arrested on November 5, 2026, on the orders of the Minister for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, who first inspected the vandalized equipment at Entebbe International Airport.

Minister Byamukama said besides vandalism, the suspects also face charges of terrorism and negligence.

Their arrest followed continued vandalism on airport equipment hence causing financial loss to the authority.

It should be remembered that 10 months ago, unknown thugs vandalised copper wires valued at Shs600 million belonging to the airport’s approach lighting and cargo lighting systems in a security breach.

It should also be recalled that in July this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni sacked UCCA’s Eng. Al-Hajj Ayub Sooma, the former Director Airports and Aviation Security and his sacking letter was handed to him at Entebbe Protea Hotel, after he had just finishing making a presentation on the status of Aviation works. Other UCAA officials who were sacked include; Eng. Ronald Twesugye chair UCAA contracts committee and Hellen Wanene the Head Legal at UCAA.
