SOROTI CITY
Soroti district alone contributes 25 Percent of the national Covid 19 prevalence.
This was revealed yesterday 9th November 2021 by Dr. Henry Mwebasa, the Director General Health Services Ministry of Health at the Launch of Teso sub region Covid 19 mass vaccination.
The campaign was launched by Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Hon Minister of Health yesterday in soroti city at the soroti sports ground in a ceremony attended by different leaders around teso sub region.
Dr. Hendry Mwebesa appreciated the health workers for their services and all leaders in the region for their big contribution in the fight against covid 19.
“This campaign is to create awareness of the covid 19 situation in this district and the region as teso is one of the covid 19 epi centres in the country whereas other regions record few cases, currently about 35 covid 19 people are admitted at the covid 19 unit in soroti district showing that 25% of the cases come from soroti district alone which isn’t good,” he added.
He further added that the regional mass covid 19 vaccination campaign is starting in Teso sub region covering ten different districts and one city for two full weeks with an aim of vaccinating a target of about one million people as there are enough vaccines to vaccinate all those above the age of eighteen.
Hon. Edoru Simon Ekuu the soroti district chairperson appreciated the ministry for coming together with it’s team to launch the campaign and urged all leaders to step out and ensure that they mobilize people to get vaccinated so that the country will fully open.
Hon Moses Attan Okia, the MP of Soroti City East Division requested the main vaccination venue to be shifted back to the public gardens as the sports ground is far away from town where most people have no time of reaching to.
“If we need to get many people, then let’s go to where they are as the one million target is achievable, am going to mobilize all teso mps to come back home and help mobilize the people to get vaccinated” he added
Dr. Aceng commended the health team for steering the fight against covid 19 and reminded different RDC’S the presidential warning of firing any of them if the vaccines get expired in any of their districts.
“We need a target of 125,000-200,000 people vaccinated daily in every district, leave your offices and move out, mobilize the people and I urge all the youth to join the move and not only look at money for facilitation as there isn’t any money to pay anyone”
“After the vaccination exercise, we shall see the statistics in two weeks, if they are good, we shall send a letter to open up most of the places and see through that social lives get back” she added.
