Mbale City Councilors have accused the City’s Deputy Clerk and Principal Finance Officer for mismanaging the affairs of the City.
The councilors made the accusations in a City Council meeting held on Thursday last week. The Deputy City Clerk is Kenneth Khatuli.
Led by the City Council Speaker, Mariam Nabuya, the Councilors said the duo should take leave and refresh their minds because at the moment they don’t know what they are doing.
In one on one interviews with some of the city councilors, Walujo Ismaha Mukakadi, one of the councilors said the Deputy City Clerk and his technical team are day dreamers.
“The Deputy City Clerk and the PFO should explain why councilors have not been paid for eight months now and why Nalu tours and travels have not yet started working yet they were offered a contract of revenue collection on street parking.” Mukakadi said.
“They have opened an illegal account for the Central market and yet councilors proposed a single account in the name of IRAS. That means they are embezzling the money collected in the market,” Mukakadi added.
Sam Mafabi, a city councilor representing Bukonde ,Lwaso and at the same time on finance committee at the city council said they have been silent but have now discovered that they have been making losses in the name of corruption by some the city officials.
“We are tired and we want them to take a short leave with immediate effect,” Mafabi said.
Isaac Waniala, a city councilor representing Busamaga West in Industrial City Division also blamed the duo for the loopholes in the way they are performing at the city council.
However when we talked to Khatuli, he said that the councilors should be calm and patient as they solve the issues slowly.
He urged them to handle the city issues with care before making conclusions.
He said the second account at Central market is to cater for its electricity, water and cleaning.
