Police in Namisindwa district has arrested two supporters of John Musila the legislator of Bubulo East constituency in Namisindwa district over murder allegations while others are still on the run.

Apollo Wambwa was arrested by police in Mbale City on Monday, 4th April, 2022 while Marumbu was picked from his home at Bukhoko last week.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, the two suspects are Apollo Wambwa, driver of the legislator from Magale town council and Fred Marumbu from Bukokho Sub County.

He adds that on 14/1/2021 during presidential and parliamentary general elections, supporters of Musila murdered a one Richard, a resident of Bukokho Sub County in Namisindwa district at Kaboya polling station in Bumoni Sub County.

Taitika also says that Richard was a polling agent of Mataya his rival at Kaboya polling station.

Taitika says Richard was attacked by supporters of Musila who beat him with stones, and sticks until he died on allegation of ballot staffing.

John Musila the legislator of Bubulo East Constituency in Namisindwa district has denied the allegations of his supporters murdering Richard. He instead accuses Mataya of being behind these arrests as a way of weakening him politically and creating hatred between him and his voters.

Speaking to this reporter yesterday 5th April, 2022 Musila said that during Election Day, Mataya hired youths from Mbale town who came with sticks, pangas and stones and started beating his supporters and agents at different polling stations with the aim of rigging votes in his favor.

The MP also adds that they arrested some of those youths and were taken to Namisindwa police station but were later released on police bond.

However, Richard Mataya has dismissed the allegations of being behind the arrests saying that Uganda police is doing its work.

He urged Musila to be calm and leave the police to do its work, saying once his supporters are found innocent they will set free rather than attacking him.
