Leaders from Bukedi Sub Region have called for affirmative action in a bid to eradicate poverty and send people into the money economy.
While in an exit meeting of the recently concluded sensitization campaign, Leaders expressed concerns on how and why their subjects have stayed in abject Poverty.
Dr. Monica Musenero, the team leader said it’s so embarrassing to see that Bukedi is ranked second among the poorest communities.
Honorable Jacob Oboth Oboth, the State Minister for Defense called upon Government to triple the 100 million shillings per Parish to 300million shillings annually.
Hon. Sarah Opendi, the Woman MP Tororo Municipality pointed out the need to restore the cooperatives in a bid to boost the market of the products.
She also called for the speeding up of the East African Standard Gauge Railway that shall help transport the goods to market places.
She warned that short of that, the Parish Development Model is bound to fail like other projects because the farmers shall be stuck with their produce.
Hon. John Mulimba, the State Minister for Internal Affairs called upon Government to empower Resident Commissioners with monitoring tools that shall be used to monitor government projects.
He also emphasized the need to involve local leaders to try and push the Gospel of the Parish Development Model to the grass root. He also advocated for the inclusion of the LCs and Government employees to help and push the Parish Model forward.
He also urged that although the program is emphasizing more on mindset change, equal efforts should be directed towards financial inclusion short of which there will be misuse of finance.
